Mount Claude & Mount Vandyke
NewStars Elite’s ‘Tassie Tops’ event, is designed to complete a hike challenge in the changing terrain of the seasons.
Our Challenge for Autumn this year was to summit Mount Claude and Mount Vandyke on the same day.
This was a 9 hour hike (including breaks), starting from Round Mountain lookout to Mount Claude then on to Mount Vandyke and down to O’Neills car park where we had left another car.
A good 4 of those hours were spent on very steep gruelling slopes, there wasn’t a lot of signage so we weren’t sure if we found Mount Claude summit. We followed a sign that said ‘lookout’ which we think was the summit.
We also didn’t see a trigg point for Mount Vandyke just a sign that said Mount Vandyke with some boulders behind it.
Advice
Research as much as you can on the net like the All Trails app, Tasmania parks and wildlife and any other hiking Tasmania information you can find before going, as I mentioned there wasn’t many signs indicating the summits.
